The much-anticipated Maha Kumbh Mela is set to begin on January 13 in the sacred city of Prayagraj, drawing millions of devotees from across India and the world. To manage the vast crowds and ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has announced extensive transportation arrangements, including a fleet of over 7,000 buses and 24x7 support services for passengers.

Massive Deployment of Buses

The UPSRTC has geared up to deploy 7,000 rural buses and 350 shuttle buses to manage the massive influx of pilgrims expected during the Maha Kumbh. These buses will operate within the fair area and cater to pilgrims arriving from various parts of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states.

To ease the flow of traffic and reduce congestion in the main event zone, eight temporary bus stations have been set up in the outer fair area. These stations will handle buses arriving from nearby districts, ensuring an efficient and organized transit system.

Electric Buses to Join the Fleet

In a move towards eco-friendly transportation, UPSRTC has announced that electric buses will also be part of the Maha Kumbh transport arrangements. These buses aim to provide a sustainable and comfortable travel option for devotees, while also reducing the environmental impact of the massive event.

Command Control Center for Real-Time Assistance

To ensure smooth operations and address any issues, a Command Control Center has been established at the UPSRTC headquarters. This center will provide real-time information and assistance to passengers, drivers, and conductors throughout the duration of the Maha Kumbh.

Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh emphasized that this system has been put in place to handle the heavy footfall and ensure the safety and convenience of all attendees. The center will monitor operations, respond to emergencies, and facilitate smooth communication between different teams.

“The final was really intense; the Chinese were breathing down our necks throughout the game and made it really difficult for us to create a clear goal scoring chance,” Harmanpreet said in a Hockey India release.

24x7 Passenger Support

For passengers facing any difficulties or requiring assistance during their journey, UPSRTC has introduced a 24x7 support system.

Pilgrims can reach out to the Command Control Center via a toll-free number (18001802877) or a dedicated WhatsApp number (9415049606).

These support lines will provide immediate help wherever possible, ensuring a seamless travel experience for everyone.

To further enhance coordination, a Control Room has been set up at Jhunsi, Prayagraj. This facility will maintain regular communication with the Command Control Center, providing updates to higher management every two hours.

Special Arrangements for Bathing Days

The Maha Kumbh is known for its sacred bathing days, during which pilgrims take a holy dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. These days witness a significant surge in footfall, requiring extra measures to handle the crowd.

To manage this, the buses from nearby districts will operate from the temporary bus stations in the outer areas of the fair. This arrangement is designed to prevent overcrowding in the main fair zone and ensure pilgrims can reach their destinations safely and efficiently.

Ensuring Safety and Convenience

Speaking about the preparations, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said that the government is committed to ensuring a safe and convenient experience for the millions of devotees attending the Maha Kumbh.

“Extensive preparations have been made to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims. The Command Control Center, temporary bus stations, and 24x7 support systems are all aimed at providing a smooth and stress-free journey for the devotees,” he said.

The minister also reassured that instructions have been issued to the transport staff to maintain constant communication with the Control Room at Jhunsi. Regular updates will help manage operations more effectively, especially during peak hours.

Arrival of a Water Ambulance for Medical Emergencies

In a significant boost to the safety measures at Maha Kumbh, a water ambulance from Gujarat has been stationed at Mahakumbh Nagar. This mobile hospital, equipped with oxygen cylinders, emergency medicines, and other essential medical supplies, has been deployed by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to provide immediate medical assistance during emergencies, especially during the ritualistic bathing in the Ganga.

NDRF DIG Manoj Sharma explained that the water ambulance will patrol the waters throughout the festival. “An MBBS doctor will be stationed aboard the ambulance to ensure that treatment can begin on the spot in case of an emergency,” he said. The ambulance, transported from Gujarat by truck, will return to the NDRF center in Varanasi after the conclusion of the festival.

A Message to the Devotees

The UPSRTC has urged passengers to make use of the toll-free and WhatsApp support numbers in case of any issues during their travel. The corporation has also requested pilgrims to cooperate with the transport staff and follow guidelines to ensure a safe and organized Maha Kumbh experience.

With the deployment of thousands of buses, eco-friendly transportation options, and round-the-clock support, the UPSRTC aims to make the Maha Kumbh a smooth and memorable experience for everyone.

As the city of Prayagraj gets ready to host one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, the government’s efforts to provide safe and efficient transportation reflect its commitment to the well-being of the pilgrims. The Maha Kumbh promises to be not just a spiritual journey but also a testament to meticulous planning and coordination.
